GREATER NOIDA: A man was booked on Monday for allegedly torturing and illegally confining his 22-year-old wife in his house in a Jewar-based village. An FIR has also been registered against parents of the accused Nazmuddin under various sections of the Indian Penal Code as well as the Dowry Prohibition Act.
In her complaint, the woman, Nasreen, said she was confined for a week and suffered severe injuries due to torture by her in-laws over dowry. She managed to use her husband’s phone to call her parents, who took her to the hospital. She was in the hospital for three more days as doctors had diagnosed her for multiple fractures in her left hand and right leg.
In the complaint, Nasreen said she married Nazmuddin from Jehnuka Nagla village two years ago and they have a one-year-old son. She alleged that the accused had started being violent from the second month of their marriage and every time when things escalated, the other family members asked her to forget it.
The woman said that the accused hit her with a rod on September 28 after an argument over dowry. “His parents told him to kill me so that he can marry someone else. The in-laws said they will sell off a piece of land to get police on their side,” she told police.
“Even after I was injured, my in-laws did not take me to the hospital and let me suffer without any medicine,” she said. She had to remain confined to her bed till October 4 when she finally managed to call her parents. Her brother and father reached the house and took her to the district hospital.
Mohammad Waseem, her brother, said it was the fifth time in two years when he had to bring his sister in an injured state from her in-laws home.

An FIR has been registered against the husband and his parents under IPC sections 506 (Criminal Intimidation), 325 (Punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 323 (Assault), 498-A (husband and his relatives to subject a married woman to cruelty) along with sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. SHO Dadri Rajveer Singh said efforts are on to arrest the accused.
In another incident in Ghaziabad, a man in his twenties was arrested for allegedly abetting his wife’s suicide in Bisrakh. Laxmi died under mysterious circumstances on September 8 at her house.
Munish Chauhan, SHO (Bisrakh) said the woman’s autopsy report suggested that she died by hanging. An FIR has been registered against the husband, his parents, his brother and his brother’s wife under Section 306 (Abetment of suicide) of the IPC.
He added that the accused Lalit Giri, from Chipyana village, was arrested from near Crossings Republik housing society on Tuesday.
